SOLAR MYTHS DEBUNKED
MYTH - WE DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT CLIMATE FOR SOLAR
FACT: Canada is a great country for solar!
Solar irradiation levels vary across the country, but every province receives enough sunlight to make solar a great investment!. Solar panels will continue to produce a significant amount of energy on overcast days. Germany has more solar than any other country in the world, yet Germany's solar resource is roughly equivalent to that of Alaska. Solar can work in almost any climate, as long as panels are properly installed in a location free from shade and at the proper tilt and orientation.
MYTH - SOLAR IS TOO EXPENSIVE
FACT: Solar is cost competitive with other sources of electricity.
The price of solar technology has fallen steeply in the past several years, and solar technology has never been as affordable as it is right now. Tax incentives can help reduce the upfront cost of commercial projects, and solar financing can help spread the upfront cost of solar out over several years. If your system is appropriately sized you can expect to see a return on your solar investment in your first year and pay off the entire cost of your system long before its warrantied lifetime. Very few household or business purchases actually pay for themselves: by going solar you are not only locking in over 30 years of free, renewable energy, but fighting against the rising cost of electricity and saving money on your bills.
MYTH - I WON'T BE IN MY HOME LONG ENOUGH TO REPAY MY INVESTMENT
FACT: Having solar installed can increase the value of your home.
Homes with solar photovoltaic systems can sell for a premium compared to homes without solar systems. Home buyers know that solar energy will save them money on utility bills, and can recognize the value of investing in a home with solar. Even if you are not sure you will be staying in your home for the lifetime of your solar system, you will still benefit from your solar installation when you sell your home.
MYTH - I SHOULD WAIT FOR MORE EFFICIENT MODULES
FACT: Solar module efficiency is improving, and some exciting new technologies are in development. However, there have only been slight improvements in the efficiency of commercially available modules over the past 25 to 30 years. Many of the more efficient solar cells you hear about on the news occur in the laboratory, as experimental prototypes. The market has been slow to adopt higher-efficiency solar cells, because for the most part they are extremely expensive.
MYTH - IT'S COMPLICATED TO INSTALL SOLAR
Fact: It doesn’t have to be. Once you request a solar quote, Demand Renewables offers a free consultation and assessment. We will show you how much you can save and answer all of your questions. We take care of applications, permits, inspections and any other paperwork for you before the installation starts.
